Purpose of Freakonomics

The purpose of Freakonomics, I believe, is to get readers to think abstractly about the world around us and question it. Instead of just taking the world in which we live in and thinking nothing of it, we should instead question what we consider common knowledge. Levitt and Dubner did a great job not only questioning common knowledge and coming up with theories about how things correlate, but also provided data which backed up their theories in ways that are hard to argue with.I believe this is the most important lesson of the book, that if we want to question why certain things in the world happen, we are not powerless anymore because information and data is readily available to us. With all the information we are now provided with we should never hesitate to research a link between two events that interest us. After reading this book I have a greater curiosity with the world around me. My question for the class is: Did reading Freakonomics affect your views about the world? If it did, in what ways will you start to think differently during your everyday life?
