July Assignment

Character assessment of Isaac Gonzales:

This character in particular has taken an interest to the Molasses tower. He is a hard working immigrant trying to support his family by working for USIA. But this has also lead him into a sticky situation. The way he gets up a countless number of nights and makes a grueling two mile midnight sprint to the source of his demons, as Puleo so calls it, isn’t a normal thing for a USIA employee to do. But all he wants to do is settle his racing mind of thoughts of the tower collapsing by releasing some of the molasses. In reality it makes no difference but to calm his mind, that I believe is driven to insanity, this helps on those sleepless nights. People don’t just go insane. It happens over time, so it makes me wonder what did Isaac do before he went to work for Mr. Jell and USIA? Im no psychologist but I sense a little ocd/anxiety disorder following him to the time of the construction of the molasses tower. Knowing something bad is going to happen and yet no one listens to you for months on end could definitely have pushed Isaac a little too far.

Once again, I’m no psychologist, hey maybe he was just a concerned citizen. But really what person in their right mind runs 2 miles every night back to his job to check on something that you or your family wouldn’t even be hurt by if it collapsed anyways? Exactly.
